    JOB OVERVIEW

    The Role of Financial Managers

    Responsibilities
     Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company (payroll, invoicing,
    and other transactions).
     Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting
     Participate in strategic data analysis, research, and modeling for senior company
    leadership.
     Support project analysis, validation of plans, and ad-hoc requests.
     Manage the company’s financial accounting, monitoring, and reporting systems.
     Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
     Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, and forecasts.
     Monitor financial details to ensure that legal requirements are met.
     Supervise employees who do financial reporting and budgeting.
     Review company financial reports and seek ways to reduce costs.
     Analyze market trends to maximize profits and find expansion opportunities.
     Help management make financial decisions.
     Prepare special reports required by governmental agencies that regulate businesses.
     Oversee the accounting, audit, and budget departments of their organization.
     Oversee their firm’s credit business. They set credit-rating criteria, determine credit
    ceilings, and monitor the collections of past-due accounts.
     Monitor and control the flow of cash in and out of the company to meet business
    and investment needs. For example, they must project cash flow to determine
    whether the company will have a shortage or surplus of cash.
     Control financial risk by using strategies to limit or offset the probability of a
    financial loss or a company’s exposure to financial uncertainty.
     Decide how best to limit a company’s losses by obtaining insurance against
    risks, such as the need to make disability payments for an employee who gets
    hurt on the job or the costs imposed by a lawsuit against the company.
     undertaking strategic analysis and assisting with strategic planning
     producing long-term business plans
     undertaking research into pricing, competitors and factors affecting
    performance
     controlling income, cash flow and expenditure
     developing and managing financial systems/models
     carrying out business modelling and risk assessments
     supervising staff
     liaising with managerial staff and other colleagues
     Provide financial reports and interpret financial information to managerial staff
    while recommending further courses of action.
     Advise on investment activities.
     Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results and the company’s
    actual performance compared to the business plans.
     Develop trends and projections for the firm’s finances.
     Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities.
     Oversee operations of the finance department, set goals and objectives, and
    design a framework for these to be met.
     Manage the preparation of the company’s budget.
     Liaise with auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is
    maintained.
     Correspond with various other departments, discussing company plans and
    agreeing on future paths to be taken
    Requirements
     Proven experience as a Financial Manager.
     Experience in the financial sector with previous possible roles such as financial
    analyst.
     Extensive understanding of financial trends both within the company and general
    market patterns.
     Proficient user of finance software.
     Strong interpersonal, communication, Negotiation, and presentation skills.
     Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes
    are being used.
     A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles.
     Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations.
     Ability to stick to time constraints.
     Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information.
     Ability to work and effectively communicate with senior-level business partners
     Excellent business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
     BS/MA degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
     Professional qualification such as CFA/CPA or similar will be considered a plus.
     5-8 years of experience in accounting and/or financial analysis.
     Knowledge of financial reporting and data mining tools such as SQL, Access, etc.
     Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
